The History Behind Push For
Cheese Films
In
2004, two college students from Louisville, KY came up with a unique
idea for their Biology class video final. "Socks at the Alpine
Tundra", as their short film was titled, surprisingly ended up
raising their grades from D's to A's for the entire semester..
Little did they know that three years later, this seemingly simple
idea would create a monster. In July, 2007, these
two up-and-coming filmmakers entered the
International 48 Hour Film Festival
competition, in which competitors are given 48 hours to complete a
4-7 minute film to be voted on by the audience upon screening and
also a panel of well-respected judges. Thus, Push For Cheese
Films was born. The name "Push For Cheese" came
from a nacho cheese dispenser.
With an unmatched team of talented individuals, Push for Cheese
Films produced a horror film that was unique, absolutely hilarious,
and at the same time, pretty darn disturbing. The film was titled,
"Unraveled" and ended up winning two awards.
The Audience Award was given to "Unraveled" for the sheer public
response the film received during screenings. The panel of
judges also saw that the film was recognized with a Special Jury
Award for the film "most likely to have a cult following." The
many positive responses that Push For Cheese Films led to the
development of a series of short films based on the characters of
"Unraveled".
In late 2007, PFC was soon introduced to The
Muckrakers, a local band through Louisville's own, Stu Pollard.
Production began in mid-December of The Muckrakers' music video for
their single, "Kerouac". As requested by the band, PFC came up
with a storyline involving the characters from "Unraveled" which
portrayed them as the road crew for the band. It turned out
great considering it was a "no-budget" project that was shot live
and on-location in a matter of hours.
PFC had since began entering various film contests including the
"BWW Film School", "Tide-To-Go: My Talking Stain", and "Heinz, Take
Two" television commercial contests, without much success.
This did not discourage Push For Cheese Films as they shortly
decided to focus on more original concepts and video projects.
One year later, PFC signed on to do another music video for "The
Muckrakers" for their local hit single, "Lights of Louisville",
set to
be released early January 2009.
This project allowed PFC to film in locations such as Louisville
Slugger Field, Churchill Downs, The Galt House, and Fourth Street
Live, just to name a few. Because of the numerous locations,
this was a huge undertaking from a production standpoint.
PFC is also currently in the process of writing a completely
original script and concept for a feature-length film. Upon completion,
this script will eventually be sent to professional animation
studios in hopes that the project becomes a
reality.
PFC now offers a number of videography
services to suit any project including music videos, advertisements,
editing services and others.
Look for many great things to come from Push For Cheese Films, and
stay tuned often to see what lies ahead!
